Koppler Moor: The largest contiguous moor area in the municipal area is the Koppler Moor. In a basin west of the village it used to have a much larger extent than today. To the enlightened man of the 19th century, wetlands and bogs appeared to be unproductive areas that should be converted to farmland. Drainage in the form of deep ditches and drains led to the most effective drying out of the upper soil layers. The peat of the raised bogs was extracted for heating purposes.
