Salzburger HirtenAdvent

The history of the HirtenAdvent

Known until 2017 as the Tobi Reiser Advent Singing, the roots of the Salzburg Shepherds' Advent stem from the Advent Singing in the Großes Festspielhaus. In 2006, companions of Tobi and Tobias Reiser decided to move to the more intimate setting of the Great Auditorium of the University and to realize an Advent Singing oriented towards traditional folk music. Today, around 6,000 visitors a year experience a small, fine event there as a way of getting in the mood for Christmas.

On the content of Shepherd's Advent 2023: "Da hat vor dem Stall da Äpfibam bliaht".

The old, blind shepherd Simeon tells the shepherds about his dream in which he foresees the biblical birth of Jesus, with all its accompanying events: Mary's proclamation, census and unsuccessful search for a hostel. At first he is ridiculed by the other shepherds, until they meet a strange couple and inexplicable celestial phenomena happen ...

The Salzburg Shepherds' Advent takes place between December 1 and 10, 2023. A separate children's performance on December 7 will feature a shortened version of the play specially adapted for young audiences.
